With an undergraduate background in Home Sciences, Bharti always had a knack for home management and efficiency. She also always had a keen eye for design and collected multiple editions of the Design Week At the age of 20, she started her first ever business; Tenderlings. Tenderlings manufactured soft-furnishings for new-born babies – laundry baskets, sleeping bags, hoodies for babies. This filled Bharti’s design cup and she felt extremely fulfilled.
As life has it, marriage and family took Bharti to the UK and Tenderlings had to shut shop.
In the UK, after she would send her son off to school, she would really notice the emptiness. She missed the world of design and business management. But her boredom was quickly soothed when she saw a notice that the Regent Academy of Fine Arts, London was accepting applications for the next batch of Interior Design Students.
This was Bharti’s entry into the beautiful world of interior design. Her love for home management and natural design instinct were finally married. After completing a few supervised projects in London, as life always has it, yet again, her marriage brought her back to India.
In 2002, the Indian market had almost no appetite for interior design – families didnt care for it and very few even budgeted for it. But when she moved into her first family-owned home, she was not going to leave it undone. She did the unthinkable task of designing a home she and her family were already living in. Not just that – she had to execute the project. In a non-digital world, she went out and found a team of carpenters and began to start a working relationship. In 1 months, her family home was ready, end to end.
Within 2 months, she began getting requests from multiple residents of the same apartment. 1 project in 2002 started Bougainvillea Design Studio and we went from 1 project to 146 in a period of 10 years. All, with no advertisement and marketing whatsoever. Just pure goodwill and service satisfaction.
In 2021, Bougainvillea Design Studio took another interesting turn, when Nikita Girdhar, Bharti’s daughter joined the endeavor with a contribution that truly sets us apart from other interior design firms. Nikita is also a practsing psychologist and brings her lifestyle and wellness expertise to the table. She works to understand clients on a deeper level so that their home design can serve not just their functional and aesthetic needs but also their spiritual, emotional and psychological needs.
Now rebranded to “Bougainvillea Luxe”, we exclusively serve clients in the luxury segment so that the inside of your home can exude your overall lifestyle.
